About our support group
We arrange a free weekly informal support group every Monday Evening between 7
and 9 pm at the St. Paul's Episcopal Church Parish Hall in Sikeston, Missouri.
Who are the groups for?
Any relative, partner or friend of some one who has or has had a drinking or
drug problem.
What is it for?
To offer support , develop awareness and insight and to improve coping skills,
by changing attitudes and behavior.
Who runs it?
Unpaid volunteers who are dedicated to helping others. These are not
professionally trained counselors, but people who probably have gone though
similar problems and are willing to listen and share their experiences.
What happens?
Time is given for everyone (who wishes to speak) to say how he or she is feeling
, how they have been coping and support is offered where needed. The rest of the
evening is taken up in discussing specific topics such as how addiction affects
everyone, anger management, how to step back by setting firmer boundaries
building self esteem etc. Occasionally guest speakers address the group on
informative topics of interest.
Can I expect confidentiality?
Please be assured that confidentiality is expected and maintained by all
attendees. Everyone who attends will be required to sign a simple
confidentiality agreement.
What do I do if I want to attend?
We suggest that you telephone or email one the volunteers on the contact info
page.
